June2012_Strathpine artist among award-winners
Local Moreton Bay region artist, Trisha Mason, was among the major winners of the 2012 Moreton Bay Region Art Awards which were announced on Friday night.
“Trisha’s success is a testament to the strong arts community we have in the Moreton Bay region – it’s proof that our home-grown talent can mix it with the best from around the country,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“Since the awards have been open to artists Australia-wide, the bar has been lifted even higher and this year entries were received from as far away as Tasmania.
“This year the quality and the diverse range of entries resulted in the judges announcing two equal overall winners.”
Christine Turner of Bundaberg collected one of the major prizes of the Moreton Bay Region Art Awards for her photo entry titled ‘Girl’.
The piece drew the attention of the judges for its clever, yet powerful use of media to give depth and impact to the work.
Nicola Moss of Willow Vale picked up the other major prize for her work on paper – ‘Life on the edge – caught in the flow’.
The judges noted that the artist’s quick, nervous strokes and lines added to the immediacy of the captured moment.
The Moreton Bay Region Art Awards were exhibited at the Pine Rivers Art Gallery and Strathpine Community Centre until Sunday May 27.
