Jun2013_Time to celebrate with free bubbly for locals at Ocean View Estates

Thomas and Kate Honnef at Ocean View Estates are unveiling some changes this month, and to help them celebrate, will be offering a free glass of bubbles for local residents who visit the Estate for dinner or lunch (excluding special events) during June.
The first of the changes comes as Thomas and Kate farewell Head Chef Darren Page, who has moved on from his position after six years of preparing beautiful food for Estate visitors.
“Darren had become like part of our family, so we are really sorry to see him go,” Kate said.
Kate and Thomas have taken the opportunity to welcome back into their Estate family their former apprentice chef, Tony Tierney, who returns as Head Chef with a wealth of experience and skills.
Tony completed his apprenticeship at Ocean View Estates five years ago, and as a newly-qualified chef came under the tutelage of much-loved Brisbane chef and TV personality, Alastair McLeod, working at Brett’s Wharf.
Having made a name for himself in the city, Tony has spent the past 18 months as Head Chef at the much-acclaimed Tank Restaurant and Bar, but said it wasn’t a difficult decision for him to return to Ocean View Estates.
“I actually told Kate when I left that I would go and get some experience and then come back,” he said.
“I enjoy being part of the Estate.  I grew up in the Lockyer Valley and I’m passionate about local produce and promoting what’s grown in our nearby farming regions, so this is a great fit for me.
“One of the things Alastair has taught me is that we have no need to buy from overseas when we can get such beautiful fresh produce down the road.”
Tony has developed a new menu – released at the start of June – featuring modern fine-dining cuisine and fresh local produce, but still retaining some customer favourites.
The popular Laid-back-locals menu will also continue on Thursday and Friday nights, with all meals under $20 and free dessert with children’s meals (bookings needed by 6pm).
Other changes include the Estate restaurant now being open every Wednesday for lunch from 10am – 3pm, and the unveiling of a new logo and a new look for the Estate which better depicts what the heart of the business is: the vineyards.
Don’t miss the Estate’s second Unwind in the Vines outdoor concert of the year, on Sunday 21 July, hosted by Jamie Dunn and featuring upcoming band Sista Burley, who will release their first EP on the day, along with Jill & Agro and The Redsell Brothers.
