July2014_Zonta Club of Pine Rivers

20th Anniversary.
The Zonta Club of Pine Rivers was chartered in June 1994 by Zonta International, and celebrated its 20 year anniversary with a cocktail party at the Eatons Hills Hotel on the 11th June, 2014.

The evening was officiated by the Club’s present President, Dot Patrick, and included hot finger food, a large anniversary cake, and a big-screen slide show of the Club’s events and members over the past 20 years.
As well as the current Club members there were about 20 guests, including Zonta District 22’s District Governor, Judith Anderson, the District 22 Treasurer, (lucky winner of the main raffle prize), Zonta members from the Caboolture, Redcliffe and Sandgate Clubs, and past Pine Rivers members, about 5 of whom were Charter members.

Also attending as guests were MBRC (Moreton Bay Regional Council) Councillors Brian Battersby (a long-time supporter of the club) and Councillor Mike Charlton;  and the last Mayor of Pine Rivers Shire, Yvonne Chapman, who was also a charter member of the Zonta Club of Pine Rivers.
Charter President, Edith Fogg, attended with Maureen Pickstone of the Lyell Deer sanctuary.  Maureen was the Club’s 3rd President.  Nine of the Club’s eleven past presidents were able to attend.
President Dot told the guests that the Zonta Club of Pine Rivers had raised over $300,000 in the past 20 years, all of which money had gone towards supporting women and girls both locally and overseas.  The District Governor spoke on the work of Zonta International and its humanitarian projects. The evening concluded with the cutting of the cake by the Charter President, Edith Fogg, and the District Governor, Janet Hayward.
(Unfortunately the last of the Club’s Charter members, Bettina Mayfield, resigned from the Club in 2012, feeling she had too much on her plate, and was unable to attend due to the recent sudden death of her husband Len.
Our Club’s most long standing members are Jan Spittle who joined in February 1995 and Vicki Williams who joined in May 1997.)
