ARTIST OF THE MONTH JULY
Warren Watson
Growing up in North Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand, Warren worked in Christchurch, as a sign writer / display artist, trained in lettering, murals, and commercial design and cartooning until the late 70’s before moving to Australia. Three decades in the sign industry has given him a thorough grounding in composition, draughtsmanship and paint application.
Warren comes from an artistic family. His grandfather was a cartoonist for the Christchurch Press and his mother is an active member of the Rangiora Art Society.
Now living in Brisbane and working from his home based studio over looking the Samford Valley, he can be found with brushes in hand, pots of paint covering the workshop. He enjoys being able to experiment with different mediums, finding it most challenging and rewarding.
Warren’s canvasses are comprised of layering of paint and textures to add depth and movement keeping the eyes searching through the painting which should inspire a work that will hopefully ignite a degree of sensation in the viewer.
Warren won the peoples Choice Award on Dayboro Day. Currently the President of the Dayboro Community Art Gallery and one of our most popular artists
