Introducing our School Chaplain Emma Bohl
My name is Emma Bohl and I am the Chaplain for Dayboro and Mt Mee State Schools. Over the past 6 months I have spent a lot of time trying to memorize names, which I am very bad at, but slowly I am getting to know them all.
Along with that I had the great the privilege to go on both Year 5 & 6 camp with the students from Dayboro and getting to know them over those days away was a real blast! The teachers who went on the camp did such an amazing job even on the few hours of sleep they got.
Also I have put on a pancake breakfast at both schools for Chaplaincy Week which was in May. It was good fun making breakfast for the students and teachers. I couldn’t have done it without the helping hands of Paul Inglis and also a few of my friends who volunteered – some of the students were so helpful! So thank you a lot to those people.

Just recently I have been given the opportunity to work more days in both schools. Starting next term I will be working 3 days in Dayboro State School and 2 days at Mt Mee State School until the end of the year.
Before doing chaplaincy work I was employed by Lifeline and worked in disability care, doing personal care for people who had mental illnesses and also some of my clients were physically disabled. The majority of my clients were older than my parents so at times
it was very challenging as I worked by myself. Trying to get a 50-year-old lady who had personality disorder and also bi-polar condition out of bed in the middle of winter was a little hard and I would often have to find ways to encourage them with incentives like a cup of coffee as that was what most of my clients loved to do …. drink coffee.
I really enjoyed working for Lifeline and it was a great learning experience for me working with people with disabilities but my passion has always been in working with youth and young people. Ever since I was a student in school I have wanted to work with young people. Since working in the schools I have seen what an incredible job the Principals, teachers and all other support staff do in both schools. I am really blown away by how much they all care for the students and how selfless they all are.
I really appreciate people being so welcoming to me and I look forward to the rest of the year in both schools.
The communities of Dayboro and Mt Mee have been very friendly and I have received a lot of support and encouragement from the Combined Churches Committee and also from my supervisor, Jeff Howard, from Scripture Union. I am available to chat to parents on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Dayboro School and Thursday or Friday at Mt Mee School. Just make a call to the school office before coming so I can re-arrange my program to meet you.
