GALVIN TO CONTEST MAYORALTY
A former Deputy Mayor of the Pine Rivers Shire Council will contest the mayoralty for the new Moreton Bay Regional Council.Bryan Galvin served 13 years with Pine Rivers – the last seven as Deputy Mayor to Yvonne Chapman.
He resigned from the Council last year to attend to matters relating to his family business.
Bryan now resides in Redcliffe but he and his wife still have a branch of the family business at Strathpine.
During his time with Pine Rivers, Mr Galvin was heavily involved in the town planning process which saw the Shire’s population rise from about 100,000 to its present 151,000.
To give himself the skills to do the best job, he completed a Masters in Town Planning during his term as chairman of the Council’s Planning Committee.
Cr Galvin was well respected by the business community in Pine Rivers as well as the community in general.
He formed many business associations, which in turn led to contact with high schools and apprenticeship organisations.
He organised business forums, business expos and business breakfasts on a regular basis in a bid to both help small business in Pine Rivers as well as establishing new, desirable industry in the Shire.
As a result, Pine Rivers now has a thriving business community and an expanding industrial estate at Brendale.
As a councillor, Mr Galvin represented the highly-populated Division 6 of the Shire and was therefore in constant contact with the community and its various organisations.
He played a major role in the beautification of the busy Gympie Rd through Strathpine and turned the once barren but substantial Pine Rivers Park into the Shire’s leading centre for recreation and outdoor concerts.
Bryan believes the skills and experience that he has gained will equip him to take on the challenge brought on by the amalgamation.
Bryan believes the greatest challenge will be to maintain the great lifestyle the residents of the region enjoy without the costs of local government blowing out.
To achieve this, there needs to be a dedicated team of councillors who can work cooperatively for the good of the whole region.
