Deputy Mayor and Division Nine Councillor Mike Charlton said council’s annual community koala survey would take place on September 13-14 and residents could win a worm farm and wildlife books.
“Residents are asked to look in their backyards and nearby parklands over the weekend and record koala sightings or activity on council’s survey form,” Cr Charlton said.
“This survey is important because when used with scientific data it helps council plan conservation activities including habitat regeneration and identifying wildlife corridors.
“Schools can also get involved by reporting koala sightings one week prior to and after the survey weekend.”
Throughout September, a colouring competition and trivia challenge for children will run at council libraries.
A koala workshop covering koala biology and conservation will be held at Osprey House Environment Centre, Dohles Rocks Road, Griffin, on 6 September at 9.00am.
