Did you know Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Pine Rivers District has 25,000 dogs? Did you know some of these pet dogs resemble their owners?

To educate dog owners about responsible pet ownership and celebrate pet diversity, council will host a Dogs Day Out, as part of the annual Outside and Alive Event on Sunday August 17 at Rob Akers Reserve at Strathpine, from 10am to 2pm.
Radio 4BC’s pet vet Dr Cam Day, an animal behaviour consultant and media presenter will be a celebrity guest judge at the inaugural Dogs Day Out Pet Competition.
Categories will include:
Best Dressed Dog and Pet Dog that most Resembles its Owner.
Pet Vet is a role Dr Day has been enjoying since 1984, due to his wealth of pet knowledge and experience.  Each Sunday on Radio 4BC, he responds to caller’s questions about dog, cat and bird problems such as aggressive natures and problem barking behaviours.
Dr Day also helps his animal clients overcome profound fears, phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorders, escape behaviours in dogs and roaming behaviour in cats.
At the Dog’s Day Out, Dr Cam will talk on topics like “How to test your dog’s IQ,” as well as doing a “Meet and Greet” with pet enthusiasts and answering any questions from community members from 12.30pm until 2pm.
Other activities will include:  Puppy portraits;  dog agility; dog obedience;  microchipping for dogs that are registered;  Guide Dogs for the Blind;  council’s Red-Eared Slider Turtle sniffer dog Angus;  face painting;  a jumping castle;  food stalls;  and paw printing.
Pet traders such as a pet grooming boutique, pet food companies, pet accessory suppliers, and a Hydro Dog Wash, will be part of the festivities, along with organisations like the RSPCA and the Koala Action Group (as many koalas are killed or injured when attacked by dogs).
In the past, Outside and Alive has been held during the month of October in Pine Rivers District, but due to changing weather patterns and amalgamation, it has been brought forward to the month of August and now incorporates Caboolture and Redcliffe activities.
“Outside and Alive offers a range of outdoor and indoor adventurous activities and relaxing getting-back-to-nature elements,” a council spokesperson said.
“It aims to encourage residents and visitors to step outside and enjoy their natural surroundings and learn more about how to enjoy and care for their environment.”
