Dec2011_CENOTAPH RE-DEDICATION and REMEMBRANCE DAY 2011
The Dayboro War Memorial association is pleased to announce that the relocation of the Cenotaph was complete by Remembrance Day and a Re-dedication Service and Remembrance Day Service was held at the Cenotaph in Roderick Cruice Park. The service, conducted by Dr Paul Inglis was well attended.
The Association would like to thank all those who helped raise funds to complete this project, especially Doug Hartley and his Dayboro Apex helpers for conducting the two-up on Anzac Day and for the other donations from the Apex Club, the Dayboro Cowboys Junior Rugby League Club and the Rodeo Association and of course our regular two-up spinners. You know who you are. Due to this help we were able to replace the painted concrete base with a stepped sandblasted black granite base designed by Peter Wrafter. Not only did this complete the job but will have a practical purpose as well in that it will provide a damp course to protect the sandstone Cenotaph from ground moisture. Funding was also received from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. A plaque was placed at the original location in the school grounds explaining where the Cenotaph is now located and when it was relocated.
Due to the expertise of Peter Wrafter from T.W. Wrafter & Sons and his entire workforce, the dismantling, refurbishment and reassembly went like clockwork. The new base and surrounding landscaping and lighting were completed by Les Futyma from Kobble Brick and Paving and Andrew Cruice Electrical.
