Dec12_Be a kid again at Toy Box
Relive your own childhood and introduce the kids to the wonderful world of toy cars and dolls through the decades at Toy Box, the latest exhibition at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
Life-size walking dolls, pedal-powered cars, and a miniature witches’ cottage are just some of the items that local collectors have loaned for the exhibition, which also digs into the museum’s own archives.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Division 11 Councillor, Bob Millar, said the exhibition promised a fascinating visit for adults and children.
“Toy Box is a nostalgic journey for the adults, with the oldest doll from the 1930s, and kids will love seeing the mix of cars and dolls through the ages,” Cr Millar said.
“It’s wonderful to see how toys dolls and cars have changed over time, but they still capture the imagination of kids everywhere.
I’m grateful to Moreton Bay Region residents who have been keen to share their much-loved collections with the community and visitors. This is just the first exhibition in the Toy Box series.”
Cr Millar said the exhibition included free daily activities.
These include stations for making paper dolls chains; making old-fashioned dolly pegs; and creating paper toy cars.
Dolls on display range from bisque, rag, celluloid, composition and plastic and the cars featured include wood, plastic and metal.
Toy Box opened on 23 November at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum and runs until Sunday 10 March. For more information go to: www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
