Dayboro Day Festival 2008
THANK YOU, THANK YOU
The weather was wonderful and I‟m sure we all agree that Williams Street looks fantastic with the new guttering. Thank you to our wonderful Council workers for having this finished in time for Dayboro Day.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who assisted the committee with the setting up and packing up over the weekend of the festival. We could not do it without your help. Many of our helpers are now „regulars‟, so the load is getting lighter and the time taken shorter. It is very true, many hands make light work.
Thank you also to our helpers who manned the entry table and the valuation table at the Antique and Collectables Fair. From what I hear some of you had far too much fun up there, so much so that you all want to return in 2009. We must be doing something wrong; you‟re not supposed to enjoy yourselves! Ah, don‟t you just love living in Dayboro.
To all businesses who donated to Dayboro Day, whether, in kind or monetary, thank you. I would like to name businesses, but last year‟s Taxation workshops brought to light that this would be seen as advertising and therefore attract a GST component.
We are very close to having final figures for the day. We will be having an Executive Meeting to decide how much money we can donate back into the community. We know where the money is going, but we will decide at the meeting on the break up of the money. We have been advised to put some of the profit aside for our festival next year as we are unsure where we stand with our funding from Council as the amalgamation process continues.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR AWARD WINNERS
Congratulations toCraig Doyle on receiving the 2008 Resident of the Year Award. I for one am glad Craig has stayed in his hometown and involved himself in his local community. It is nice to see someone who has gone about helping out without a lot of fuss, receive this honour from his community. Congratulations also to the „Post Office Pair‟ Devon and Gloria and to Lonneke Bevan on your awards. We are so fortunate to have people like these in our Dayboro community.
Don‟t forget to put your thinking caps on for the 2009 award nominations. I bet some of you were thinking, “Why didn‟t I nominate Aunty Ethel?” she has been great for our community. Well get writing now, it is not too early. There are so many people in our wonderful community that do good works; this is an opportunity to honour them.
UPDATE ON RAFT RACE FUTURE
The Raft Race as always was one of the highlights of the day but unfortunately, because of some unthinking people, incidents occurred that we would not like to see repeated. At the Dayboro Day Festival wrap up meeting, it was decided to continue the Raft race in 2009 but with modifications. These modifications will be sent to race competitors early next year and you, the spectators, will hear more about them in the Grapevine closer to the date. If we have an incident free race in 2009, from competitors and spectators alike, then the race can continue, but any trouble and the race will cease to exist. To those who may have been injured, and to those who may have had property damage due to these unthinking acts, please except our apologies.
