One of the Moreton Bay Region’s long serving councillors has announced he will retire at the March, 2016 Local Government elections.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Division 11 Councillor Bob Millar was first elected in 2000 to the Pine Rivers Shire Council and since 2008 has served the residents of Division 11, a 600km2 area from Mt Nebo in the south to Narangba in the North.

“I am honoured to have served my community for the last decade and a half and to have played a part in the balanced development of one of Australia’s fastest growing urban regions,” Cr Millar said.

“Over nearly 16 years it has been a great privilege to work closely with local residents to build the infrastructure that matters including roads, stormwater and flood resilience projects, and the development of the Samford Parklands from a disused CSIRO facility to one of South East Queensland’s best community sporting precincts.

“As my time as a local councillor draws to an end, I’m looking forward to spending more quality time with my wife Dot who has supported me through the good and the tough times over four terms of local government service.

“My retirement from council will help us play a greater role in the lives of our wonderful grandchildren and to assist my parents in their twilight years.”

Mayor Allan Sutherland thanked Councillor Millar for his support, dedication and service to the community as a local representative, Council’s Corporate Services chairperson and Deputy leader of the Local Disaster Management Group.

“Like his father, the former Federal Member for Wide Bay Clarrie Millar AM, Cr Bob Millar has served his community with distinction and conviction,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“Bob Millar’s achievements are numerous, but it’s his loyalty to the region and council for which he will be remembered most.

“One of the hallmarks of this council has been its ability to deliver sustainable and responsible financial management and there is no doubt Bob Millar’s business and financial acumen have played a significant part in what we have achieved as a community.

“His commitment and experience in supporting our community during severe weather events will be missed.

“On behalf of council, I thank Cr Millar for his service to the community.  His successor has big shoes to fill.”                   *
