DAYBORO RODEO THIRD TIME LUCKY

With the small but enthusiastic Dayboro Rodeo Committee cranking up for the third time on Sunday 9 August, the weather did the right thing and produced a glorious day that brought the crowds for this fantastic event.  The new yards and announcers stand with its prime seating all worked well for their first rodeo.  In the brief opening formalities I remarked on the tourism, economic and social opportunities for our community that this redeveloped facility now brings.  This project has been yet another major investment that council has been undertaking in and around the Dayboro community in recent times and I was pleased to see such strong support for the efforts of the organisers.

DEER OH DEER

Whilst wild deer (mainly the Rusa deer) are a concern on the other side of the D’Aguilar range, unfortunately increasing numbers are being seen in our part of the world, from Samford to Narangba and particularly around this time of the year.  It is breeding season and not only can the animals be quite aggressive, they are very skittish and can pose a risk on our roads particularly at night.  Sightings should be reported to Council on 3205 0555 or mbrc@moretonbay.qld.gov.au

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP

More than 800 Moreton Bay Region residents take out Australian Citizenship each year with many coming from within the distribution area of the Village Pump and throughout Division 11.  Did you know that the Rotary Club of Samford Valley, for many years, has conducted a local ceremony on Australia Day supported by our Federal member, Peter Dutton.  Some candidates for citizenship have not been aware of this local ceremony until they have either been allocated to another venue or taken citizenship at one of the earlier events which regularly take place around the Region.  If you or someone you know is due to take Australian citizenship over the next few months and would like to participate in our local unique ceremony, then discuss this with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship with whom your Citizenship arrangements are being made.

COUNCIL BUSHFIRE PREPARATION

Across the 2,037 sq kms of the Moreton Bay Region that Council owns or controls, there are extensive land holdings that require ongoing maintenance, be they parks or open space reserves.  This maintenance can also include hazard reduction burning of these properties, and council is currently undertaking burns at a number of locations across our region, in some cases with the assistance of our local volunteer Rural Fire Brigades.  It is also timely that residents in the more exposed areas of our region ensure that their preparation for the coming fire season is also in place.  Extensive information is available from Council’s website and the Rural Fire website www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au

Tickets are $99 and are available online at www.decadesfestival.com.au or by phoning 5433 2052.  Stay up to date by liking the Decades Facebook page at www.facebook.com/decadesfestival

DAYBORO CEMETERY UPGRADE

Over recent years Council has been completing upgrades to a number of its cemeteries around the Region including Dayboro.  Further works are currently underway at the Dayboro cemetery including construction of a pathway, pram ramps, bollards and installation of a rubbish bin which are all improvements identified in the cemetery master plan.

DID YOU KNOW?

That traditionally, councils have provided services like local roads, waste services and animal control, but more and more councils are now involved in the social, economic and cultural development of their communities, and in improving local living environments. Councils website is a valuable resource for information on council activities.
