Council calls for Australia Day Award Nominations

Moreton Bay Regional Council is looking to recognise quiet achievers and unsung heroes, with its 2009 Australia Day Awards.  Members of community, sporting, environmental, church and charity groups are invited to nominate people or organisations in Moreton Bay Region by November 26, 2008.
Compassion to community members, voluntary community service, demonstrated excellence in their field, or making a significant contribution to their community, in the year prior to the award (2008) are what Council is looking for.
People who give their time, talents and enthusiasm whole heartedly with no thought of reward are the types of people they’d like to see nominated for recognition – to be judged by an independent judging panel of previous winners.
The 2009 award categories are as follows:
–    Citizen of the Year (individuals)
–    Young Citizen of the Year (individuals)
–    Sports person of the Year (individuals)
–    Young Sports Person of the Year (individuals)
–    Environmental Achievement of the Year (individuals or groups)
–    Special Achievement of the Year (individuals or groups)
–    Community Event of the Year (individuals or groups
–    Cultural Award of the Year (individuals or groups)
Members of organisations and community members are requested to complete the information required on the 2009 Australian of the Year Award nomination forms and return them to council by Wednesday November 26, 2008.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from council’s website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au or they can be collected from council libraries and customer service centres.
Cr Sutherland said due to the formation of the Moreton Bay Regional Council (combining Pine Rivers, Caboolture and Redcliffe districts), the 2009 award celebrations would become a formal event held on Wednesday January 21, 2009, at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre, in Downs St, Redcliffe.
