Chinese delegation comes to Dayboro

On the afternoon of January 12, 12 delegates from the city of Hohhot – capital of Inner Mongolia – came to the University of Queensland’s Dayboro Veterinary Surgery then continued out to visit Greg and Jenny Easleas’ dairy farm.
chinese_at_vets.jpgWe were initially contacted by ATEN, Australian Technical Experts Network, who are promoting Aust-Sino relations to see if we could host a visit by 12 Dairy cattle veterinarians and Researchers from Inner Mongolia.
Speaking through an interpreter we had a very lively question and answer time during their tour through the surgery and this then continued with the Easleas at their farm.
The majority of questions at the surgery regarded handling of disease outbreaks and what we did when we had the horse flu, what diseases of cattle we vaccinate against, what large animal operations we do and liaising with the government.
At Greg and Jenny’s the delegates were interested in their management systems for the calves and the cattle, and how their milk is handled and processed.
The interpreter was very impressive with only a few disease names and drugs tripping her up.  Unfortunately we did not have enough time for any of us to ask them questions of their homeland but looking on the net the meaning of their city’s name is green place and it is on the edge of vast grasslands famed for the Mongolian horsemanship.
It was a real privilege to have been able to have them here.
