CHARGES TO APPLY UNTIL JUNE 30 2008
Moreton Bay Regional Council will operate separate fees and charges for each former Council area through to June 30, 2008.
Chair of the Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Transition Committee, Cr Allan Sutherland, said the incoming Council was expected to align fees and charges as much as possible across the region from 2008/09.
“Applying each current Council’s fees and charges on a district by district basis, until the end of the financial year, is really the only practical option available to the incoming Council,” he said.
“Therefore the fees and charges in use in your Council area now will remain in use until June 30.”
Cr Sutherland said a recent review showed there were more than 3500 fees and charges in place across the three Councils.
“To bring these existing Council areas or districts into some kind of alignment is a huge task and not something that will be in place for day one,” he said.
“However, Council officers have started comparing fees and charges, and reviewing related service, so the issue can be addressed during the 2008/09 budget deliberations.”
The State Government has indicated Council budgets for 2008/09 must be adopted by June 30.
