CEDAR CREEK HALL Feb2010

– Plenty to cheer about for their Christmas Celebrations
The many Friends of the Hall are now working towards more fund raisers and social events for 2010 – our lovely lady’s 85th birthday.
Keep an eye out on our great new signs (thanks Deon Cloete from Star Signs) and check the next edition for further news and updates.  For more Hall information, please contact Wendy on 3289 4362.
Some highlights of the many that saw this Christmas gathering such a huge success were Cr Bob Millar’s MBRC cheque for $11,300+ and the Samford Museum $3,000 input (thanks Margaret Hickey and team) – all to be put toward much needed plumbing and other restoration work.  Soon after this came exciting news from Geoff Wilson MLA of a successful $20,500 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund towards replacing the back stairs at last and painting the Hall.  Sincere thanks to the State Government, and “ace” grant writers, Bill Gibson and John Lilley – we went ‘two for two!”).
It takes a lot to dampen the spirit of the Closeburn/Cedar Creek community and the Christmas celebrations held amidst the rain on Sunday 20th December confirmed just that.  Despite the downpour, 200+ determined locals turned out to dance, sing, eat and celebrate the joys of being part of this great local community at our wonderful hall.  The best laid plans for an outdoor BBQ/picnic were overturned and under the hall was transformed into an intimate, rustic space now known as ‘The Closeburn Basement Bar’!  Families picnicked or enjoyed the sausage sizzle at the door (thanks to young Thomas, Cameron and Sam), sampled fabulous Christmas treats and cakes (thanks Di Westwood and friends for organising) and were entertained by a tremendous line-up of local musicians.  Santa (who’d clearly been to Jenny Craig!) made a surprise visit on the back of a Rural Fire Brigade truck and enthralled the many children present.  Wendy Murray and her Dayboro Divas led the beautiful carol singing, accompanied by local musician, Rose Lane.  Performances too from Wayne Hinton, Suze Johnston, Dale Jones, Marlon Holden, Elissa Maclean, Gonzalo Rodino and Alison and Sean Keogh added brilliantly to the vibe.  A huge thank you goes out to all the people behind the scenes who work so hard (and have so much fun!) pulling these events together.  Special thanks also to our very own ‘Michael Gudinski’ music impresario, Michele Harris and to Suzie and Scott Bigalla for the mystical Christmas lights we have all enjoyed driving past.
