We are still enjoying a wonderful autumn on the Mountain.  There has been enough warmth and moisture to keep things going, although as I write we have a very cold snap and I am huddled over a heater.  But, it is mid-May!  But the sombre news is that el Nino is back.  Sometimes el Nino hasn’t treated us too badly, so let’s hope that will be the case this time.

Thank you to those who visited & purchased raffle tickets from us at the Dayboro Day Festival.  We hope you had as much fun as we did.  We’ll see you at the rodeo next.  (Rescheduled to June 14)

U3A Pine Rivers will be holding their Social and Information Day on Friday June 19th at Bray Hall, Cnr Cooke & O’Loane Sts Petrie gathering at 9.30am for a 10.00am start, finishing before 12 noon.  This day is “The Art and Photography Exhibition” showcasing the formidable skills and passion our tutors and students possess for their creative areas.  This is your chance to speak to the tutors about any classes or social days they hold.

All the members of the group travelled to the Queensland Combined Emergency Services Academy at Whyte Island at the port of Brisbane on Saturday May 9th.  Here they met up with about 50 other ambulance volunteers to take part in a busy day of training and scenarios.

Warm up your TRIVIA SKILLS at this fundraiser held by Mt Samson State School in the Dayboro Community Hall.  This is prior to our other trivia challenge where a packed house “dukes it out” a at the Dayboro Police Trivia Night coming up later this year.

 

We meet every third Friday morning at approximately 9.30am till noon in the Community Hall above the Bowls club and behind the Child Care.  We have an easy going meeting and morning tea to our members delight.  The meeting is of a social manner where our Financial Meetings are held at the Chermside Library on the second Friday, same time and is open to members only to talk about Finances without making any recommendations.

‘I fixed the mower,’ I said to Karyn, with a sense of satisfaction. 

‘Good.  What was wrong with it?’ 

‘Just needed a little TLC.’

‘Good,’ she said again, disinterestedly. 

 

The 60th Annual Show is now only about 4 weeks away.  I hope that your flowers are blooming, the veges are growing, the fruit trees are fruiting, the horses are getting restless etc etc.   My flowers are blooming now, as they do each year , so that they have nearly all finished for the show.  Never mind – someone else will have a chance of winning a prize.

We expected big crowds at the 100 year Centenary of Anzac Dawn Service this year but the numbers were way beyond expectation with in excess of 1200 attending, many were families with very small children.  First the magnificent new granite memorials were dedicated by Richard Lance.  This was followed by 15 “Soldiers”, our scouts dressed in WW 1 uniform each representing one of the 15 men killed in action during WW1 and accompanied by descendants of the 15, placing poppies on the columns in a moving tribute to those who paid the Supreme Sacrifice.  

Beautiful weather and visitors started to arrive early.  Cups of tea/coffee with Anzac Biscuits was a very popular pit stop. Charlie was kept busy sharing his knowledge and know how on information relating to our Anzacs.  Martin and Michael in the blacksmith shop were kept going displaying their knowledge on the forge.  One of our younger visitors, Georgia Fitzgerald of Samford was fortunate and happy enough to don a replica of a Viking’s outfit, worn around 1000 to 1200.  This very heavy and impressive outfit was made by Martin.
