Why travel?
I always ponder the question as the date draws near and the final accounts have to be paid with all the last minute details rushing in upon one. There is no one answer, so suffice to say “Because we can” and hope that we can manage to survive the month of planned and unplanned experiences ahead without having to use the very expensive travel insurance one dares not leave home without.

Antarctica (final part) by Betty Fielding
Our adventure continued on like this with 2 to 3 zodiac landings and excursions every day. At every landing we were greeted by a chorus of penguins – adelie, gentoo and chinstraps – you never tire of watching these playful creatures. As it was nesting season we managed to see lots a chicks – so cute!!

Moving Cattle
Moving cattle is not just about getting them on the truck or trailer, unfortunately. There are a number of steps which need to be taken before cattle can be moved.
All cattle require an NLIS (national livestock identification system/scheme) tag. If you purchase cattle they should already have one. If you have bred cattle, then an NLIS tag must be placed in their ear before they leave your property.

Kobar is usually almost 10kgs at his biggest, so owner Kelly knew there was something seriously wrong when he was dramatically dropping weight and came in to the Hospital at just over 4kgs!

We were in Ushuaia, on the southern tip of Argentina, sometimes known as “the end of the world”, and were due on the pier at 4pm to board the “Polar Pioneer” for our eagerly awaited journey to Antarctica. Earlier in the day we walked by the port for a peek at our home for the next 10 days.

Well here we are steaming towards Easter and Christmas is but a distant memory. It’s around this time that we start coming to terms with the side effects of all that good cheer, and trying to make good on the New Year’s resolution to lose the extra kilos.
Our pets often share these tasty treats with us but this can be detrimental to their health. Not only are some of our favourite foods toxic to our pets, but the weight gain also affects every aspect of their health and well-being.
