Get animated with free film workshops
Young people aged 12 to 25 can now book their place in next year’s free Mash It Up film makers’ workshops.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the free 2012 Mash It Up workshops would run from January 5 to 13 in libraries throughout the Moreton Bay region.
“The Mash It Up workshops will provide budding filmmakers the skills they need to write, direct, shoot and edit their very own blockbuster,” the Mayor said.

Nov28 2011_Expand your e-reading

Just in time for the summer holidays, Moreton Bay Region Libraries members can now access 1,500 eBooks and 600 eAudiobooks for free.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said titles by popular authors including Peter Corris, Nicci French, Jodi Picoult, Matthew Reilly and Bryce Courtenay were among the library’s eCollections.
“Our eBooks and eAudio books can be read and listened to with a whole range of new media, so if you’re already handy with an iPad, mobile phone or tablet device, these will expand your reading world for free,” Mayor Sutherland said.

Fire ants are small, ranging from 2-6 mm, their heads and bodies are coppery brown with darker abdomens, they are aggressive and will attack en masse, and their nests usually have no visible entry or exit holes.

Quick notification saves potential fire ant threat to Roma.  Biosecurity Queensland today praised the quick actions of a Roma mining company whose staff promptly reported suspected fire ants in a box of equipment they had received from the USA.

051011_Hendra Virus FINAL PROPERTY OFF QUARANTINE

Final Hendra virus property taken off quarantine
The last remaining property under quarantine for Hendra virus has been given the all clear.  Queensland Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Rick Symons said a series of negative test results on horses at a property in the Gold Coast hinterland meant that the quarantine could be lifted and horses could again be moved on and off the site.

Free workshops will be held along Queensland’s coast to help people understand what herbicide resistance is and how to decrease the chances of it happening.  iosecurity Queensland’s Principal Weed Scientist Joe Vitelli said the workshops enabled landholders and spray operators to better manage weeds on their properties.
