Aug2015_What’s new at the Samford Historical Museum
For the last few weeks life has been very busy at the museum. On Wednesday 10th June volunteers watched as a cherry picker was brought through the front gate and positioned outside the Provisional School.
It was time to give the “shingle roof” a well overdue oiling. A number of men took turns at carrying out the activity with a spray gun. The shingles certainly “soaked up” the oily liquid rather rapidly and looked much better for its treatment.
On the same day, the area around the Slab Kitchen, the back of the Cream Shed, the Mews and the Ferny Grove railway station plus past the Service Station, the Machinery Shed down to the Toy Museum was being excavated, the boxing followed in preparation for the new concrete pathways. A long overdue and much needed addition to our museum. The inclement weather caused many a headache, but finally early last Friday 19 June the cement truck arrived carting the most important cargo, our much awaited concrete. Busily the workman quickly set about trowelling their way through their big job ahead.
It is absolutely amazing to see the huge change that has taken place and now the museum has great disabled friendly premises.
We are always looking for more volunteers at the museum. Can you spare a few hours each week to join our happy band of workers. Please feel free to contact 3289 2743 or Geoff 0410 610 983.
