JUNE RIDE REPORT:  Our club ride on 28th June saw seventeen riders and horses turn up in time for our 8.30am departure.
The fog cleared and we left the showgrounds with me thrown in the deep end as Trail Leader while Bob was away, and ‘Dependable Dan’ on the tail closing gates and keeping an eye on the slower paced horses.
We set off toward Dayboro township and crossed Terrors Creek without incident, then made our way along Dayboro Road to Bradley’s property.  As soon as we entered the gate we rode into a bit of a quagmire, with horses sinking into holes left by the cattle.  One of our new club members was on the receiving end as mud flew from other horses feet.  She looked every bit like she had just ridden the losing horse at the Doomben Races, with just her eyes and a smile showing through the mud pack she wore.  No one said Trail Riding was glamorous!
The next challenge was negotiating the rocks on the steep side of the ridge that would take us into the unspoilt Quarry land. This is where it got interesting for me leading the ride for the first time, as now there were no tracks to follow, just thick scrub, steep terrain and no landmarks to use as a guide.
With a bit of zigzagging to make the climb a bit easier, we made it to the top of the mountain. Giving the horses a well deserved rest, we watched the rain pass across the mountain ranges on the other side of Dayboro.  Once again we got lucky and didn’t get rained on.
We descended the mountain at a good pace, quickly leaving the tall timber and came out onto Fingerboard Road.  All was going well until one rider’s mount was startled by horses running down to the fence to greet us.  Unfortunately she was unseated and landed heavily on the bitumen road. Understandably she was feeling a bit stiff and sore, but horse riders are tuff.  I’m sure she’ll be back.  A big thank you to Chris Giles for dropping what he was doing at home to be a chauffeur, while her horse was safely led back to the showgrounds.
We finished the ride with plenty of time to enjoy lunch and a chat with friends from the ‘Bush and the Burbs’ before heading home.

Our next week end away is to Kin Kin.  We leave on the 7th, ride Saturday the 8th, then home for the Rodeo on the 9th – a busy time for all who go.

The Graham Court Memorial Ride is an all day ride (back at 3.30pm).  Dayboro Pony Club hold their Gymkhana on the same day, so, to stay out their way, we have a longer ride.  This gives the riders a great chance to see the Dayboro valley in a different way.
If you want to see a spectacular event, look for The Roof Top Express, this man is able to place Cattle and a Horse on top of a Gooseneck Trailer, truly amazing.
The Big October Ride is not to far away.  A long and short ride on Saturday, with another short ride on Sunday;  meals all weekend; and Reduced Prices are $15.00 for T.R.A. members and $30.00 for non T.R.A. riders (this higher fee is imposed by Insurance company’s).  Should you require meals, please advise when you nominate.  (It will be ‘pay as you go’ for the meals i.e. as you have them.)
Happy Trails.
Thanks Bob.
