Mobile Blackspot Programme and NBN rollout target Dayboro
Dayboro and Laceys Creek will receive improved mobile phone reception under the Abbott Government’s $100 million Mobile Black Spot Programme.
In addition to the $100 million in Commonwealth funding for the first stage of the programme, a further $60 million in funding has been announced for Round 2.
Almost 500 new or upgraded mobile base stations will be built across regional and remote Australia, covering a total of 3,000 mobile black spots.
This is the most significant one time increase in mobile network coverage to outer metropolitan, regional and remote Australia delivered by a single public funding programme in the history of mobile communications in Australia.
Work has also started to begin to deliver the NBN to premises in Dayboro for the first time, under a revised rollout approach that will save months in construction time and see the project completed nationwide years sooner and at less cost.
The NBN’s monthly update shows that pre-construction activities, for example readying pits and pipes ahead of the physical network construction, have begun in Dayboro and King Scrub.
The new approach will see the upgrades accelerated throughout the country. The NBN will use different technologies used where they are most appropriate, including fibre to the node.
In early deployments, the technology has delivered average download speeds of 91 megabits per second and upload speeds of 36 megabits per second.
The progress demonstrates the Coalition’s plan to deliver the NBN sooner and at less cost to taxpayers is working.
Dickson Seniors Expo 10-11 August
The Dickson Seniors Expo is a great opportunity for retired, or about to retire seniors, to access information on activities and services available in the community. More than 50 businesses and not-for-profit organisations are represented.
Entry to the Expo is free, as are sample bags, and there are lucky door prizes to be won. Aside from information stalls, there are also interesting and informative speakers on a variety of subjects, as well as a fashion parade for women and men.
If you would like more information, or are interested in having a stall, please contact my office.
This event is an initiative of the Dickson Seniors’ Council, which I have proudly sponsored since 2004.
