Aug2015_Dayboro Show Round-up
Fair weather greeted us all on Saturday morning, which is always a good start for what we hoped would be a great weekend. It was! The gate takings were up – not substantially – but up which means that our advertising, facebook and word of mouth certainly did the trick.
Our new webpage is certainly very good and thanks to Caboodle Web Designs, Joanne and Karri for all the time and patience in getting the information out there. We really splurged on our entertainment budget this year and everyone that I have spoken to has commented on how great it was and that the ‘free’ stuff for kids to do is wonderful. Of course, as I said we blew the budget on entertainment, but as it was our 60th Show, why not? It won’t happen again next year!
Over the duration of the weekend we were privileged to have the attendance of past presidents, competitors at the first show in 1956, and family members of ‘old’ show committee members. It was lovely to catch up with as many of you as I could, though I know I did miss some. Being in our new administration building was interesting to say the least. Most things worked extremely well – some things we have to tweak, but overall we are really happy with things. Mind you, we were still chasing the painter and the electrician out of the building on Friday! For the first time in 20 years we (the Committee) were all able to stand together and watch the fireworks – on our wonderful new deck. And weren’t they simply amazing – K.C’s Fireworks certainly did themselves proud. Clive and his team have done our fireworks since our 40th Show – that was the first time, and they have been here every year since.
We are pleased to announce that we had two replies to our call out for Treasurer to replace Joy who is retiring from that position at our Annual Meeting next year. We had a meeting with the two ladies – Megan and Carolyn – and are happy for them both to join the team, which was announced at our Volunteers and Sponsors Thank you lunch on 19th July. They have had a taste of what goes on in the Show Office now and both feel fairly confident that they will be ok with it. Joy, of course, will be hovering in the wings to help them out next year.
We are also farewelling Carmel who is retiring from her varied positions on the Committee. Carmel ‘retired’ from being part of the general committee quite a few years back, but has worked tirelessly in the background organising all the catering requirements for the Show, Rodeo and Dayboro Day and whatever else got thrown to us, obtaining the much appreciated sponsorship; helping with the Woodchopping program; the bar; and goodness only knows what else, as well as keeping on both Joy’s and my backs to ensure that we got everything done on time. I really appreciated this whipcracking this year, because due to the horrible lurgy that I had for a minimum of 6 weeks, I was so far behind, and was not able to think more than 2 minutes ahead at any one time. But we got there in the end, some things didn’t get done, but most of it did.
I’ve been ‘wordy’ again, but, on behalf of all of us on the Committee I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who had any part at all, big or small, long term or short term, that helped to make our 60th Show the Best Ever.
Alison Taylor – Secretary.
