Dayboro Pony Club recently hosted almost 70 riders and their families at the Dayboro Showgrounds for Zone Camp, on 20 and 21 June.  Thanks to some dedicated volunteers from the Dayboro Trail Riders Club, many of these riders had their first ever trail ride, as well as trying all kinds of equestrian disciplines including dressage, show jumping, hoofball, mechanical cow, sporting, and obstacle course.
The Dayboro Trail Riders took pony club members on a two hour ride through private properties, showcasing some of Dayboro’s most stunning scenery.  A huge thank you to the Dayboro Trail Riders for organising this ride.  It was a highlight of the camp!
We also had assistance from Dayboro Pony Club members and parents running the canteen, and the Dayboro Show Society providing a sit down dinner and dessert on the Saturday night.  Sitting down to a home cooked meal was fantastic and the Junior Farmer Challenge, organi
As more and more city families move to Dayboro searching for a country lifestyle within easy driving distance to Brisbane, we’d like you to take a moment to consider what you may encounter on more rural roads.  Many drivers have not spent any time around horses.  They don’t realise that a horse is considered a vehicle on our roads, and don’t know how much slowing down to pass horse riders riding on or beside the road can help.  That rattling trailer or the waving out the car window might one day cause even an experienced trail horse to react unpredictably, seriously endangering the rider and other road users.
Driver education is a big help, but the safest places for most young riders to trail ride are away from roads. SEQWater will be undertaking community consultation in the coming months about the possibility of reopening existing fire trails around Postmans Track and Lake Samsonvale to horse riders and bush walkers.  We believe the current fences are only “keeping the honest thieves out” and we would love an opportunity to be able to once again trail ride around beautiful Lake Samsonvale.  If you have any questions or ideas about horse riding around Lake Samsonvale, please contact Dayboro Pony Club or Dayboro Trail Riders Club.
