Apr2015_Poetry At Rendezvous

Dayboro’s romantic and evocative café and bookshop, Rendezvous, has accepted Gerry Callaghan – who writes under the pen name of “The Dust Poet” – as their resident café poet.

Gerry has recently published her first novel, Hannah’s Song, a true story about a woman who has visions of the future.  The book is a love story on several levels, while Hannah’s life journey sees her encounter phenomena such as UFO’s, leading her to explore the effects of meditation on human consciousness.  Gerry lists interesting research at the end of the book that enlarge on these experiences; we have, in Hannah, a 21st century woman mystic contradicting some of the basic paradigms of modern science – our concepts of time, space and reality.
While writing the book Gerry went back to her love of poetry and had almost instantaneous success when she got into print and broadcast.  Her poetry spans meditative poetry to love poetry and comic poetry.   She hopes, at Rendezvous, to get acquainted with other poets in the area and discuss people’s attempts at poetry and writing, maybe even holding some live poetry readings.
The urge to create poetry has been part of mankind’s search for authenticity since story-telling and writing began; possibly because of its cathartic and healing effect.  Gerry finds in poetry a therapy, akin to painting or singing that releases feelings otherwise repressed as too difficult or sublime to be disclosed in other ways.
Should you feel inclined to share your own poems with her, Gerry would love to read them through and discuss them with you.  Find her on Sundays at Rendezvous from 2.30 till close of café, and on Thursday afternoons.
(Hannah’s Song was published by Palmer Higgs books in 2013.  It’s available on-line and from Mary Ryan’s bookshop, Milton as well as Rendezvous bookshop in Dayboro.  If you want, bring along your copy to be signed!  Find Gerry also on Facebook at Dust Poet .)
