Feature Artist at Dayboro Art gallery in April is Helen Hornibrook.
Having spent most of my life as a working wife and mother, I did not get to actually paint until about 12 years ago. However, as an art florist, I used colour, creative composition, contrast of texture and negative space every day. I studied things around me constantly, knowing I would one day paint them.
I have studied with some good local artists, and travelled to interstate artists to get more experience. I am very pleased with the prizes and awards I have won with my work, and have been asked to demonstrate and publish my work in the Artists Palette magazine. Painting landscapes is my main interest, but my passion is colour in the abstract, and these works sell well. Collecting photos for my reference data base has led to an interest in photography, and this in turn helps my painting.
Painting is a great hobby, or career, and I thoroughly recommend it. The best advice I can offer to others is to try every medium. You may never reach the end of the painting journey, but you can immensely enjoy the successes you have along the way.
