Apr2015_A LIONS TALE
As a commitment to the community’s health and welbeing, Dayboro Lions embarked on an ambitious project to provide an outdoor fitness facility in the town. Together with pleasing collaboration with the Council, and the expertise of our fitness expert member Teresa, an excellent result is developing, and is on track to be completed early in April.
On another initiative by the Lions, Council has installed the slab for the Outdoor Table Tennis Table near to the Skate Park and the Table is on order. Delivery is scheduled for early April. When installed the table will be available for immediate use, bats and balls will be available from the Pool Office for a small refundable deposit of $5, or you can bring your own and just use it.
The completion of these two projects is a significant enhancement of facilities available in Dayboro for both residents and visitors.
Saturday 18th is a big day for Lions, as we cater for young and old.
DIGGERS’ LUNCH: At lunchtime we have the traditional Diggers’ appreciation lunch. This is a Lions-sponsored event that has been running for many years, to which all returned servicemen, ex servicemen and currently active forces members and their families are our guests for the lunch and drinks, held at the Footy club. If you are one of these then you are warmly invited, so please register your intent to attend so that a gratis meal can be booked, by phoning Richard Hawkins (0418 735 626) before 11th April. All community members are also invited to this event to partake in the meal provided (Cost = $15). It is your chance to meet those who have, and still are defending our country.
MOVIE NEWS: So you want rain?? Easy… the rain dance for Dayboro is to RUN A LIONS MOVIE! January saw a deluge, keeping patrons at home. February movie coincided with a cyclone rain dump, cutting off some local roads, and March movie produced rains so heavy we needed to halt the movie for an intermission due the deafening rain on the roof!
This results in a negative gate takings (we pay min $275 per screening as royalties, plus other costs) but as the movies are run as a community event, rather than a fundraiser, then subsidising these events will continue if there is a demand.
We will be screening PADDINGTON BEAR movie in the evening of 18th April. – usual conditions and times; $6pp, $18per family. In the Community Hall, next to the Police Station. Doors open 6:30pm, Movie start promptly at 7:00pm. Kids may bring doonas etc. chairs provided for adults etc. Low cost chocolates, chips, popcorn and drinks available.
MEETING NEWS: At our March 11th Business Meeting we hosted our Zone Chair, Ray Mogridge. At the meeting Ray inducted two new members Maggie Rushton and Lorelle Costelloe, which will add strength and dimension to the activities we carry out.
The members attending the meeting discussed the recent damage caused to Yeppoon and Rockhampton by TC Maria, and it was agreed we would donate $1000 to the local Lions Club to assist with the relief effort. Members also discussed the Lions International “Bikes for Life” Project and, whilst there has been no response to last month’s request in the Grapevine, we are still hopeful of making a contribution to this worthwhile cause.
Dayboro Lions will be conducting our regular annual Smoke Alarm checks again this year on 19th April. Any elderly residents, or residents with mobility issues, wishing to take advantage of this service, please contact Dayboro Lions on dayboro.lions@gmail.com or let Maggie Rushton in the ECU Bank know, and she will pass on your details.
