Apr2014_OLD MILL ANIMAL HOSPITAL PET OF THE MONTH
Kobar is usually almost 10kgs at his biggest, so owner Kelly knew there was something seriously wrong when he was dramatically dropping weight and came in to the Hospital at just over 4kgs!
Kobar had a range of vague symptoms such as being more vocal in the home, but his sudden weight loss was a big concern. Blood tests revealed there was lots going on in his tummy area so ultrasound whiz, Dr Warren, was able to view the stomach, pancreas and liver and note some abnormalities in there.
Then the big decision was up to Kelly – whether or not to have Kobar go into surgery to have a look at the area of concern, which was possibly cancer. Kelly and family (with prayers and well wishes from his Facebook fans!) opted for the surgery and Dr Warren was able to obtain biopsy samples of the organs affected. Whilst it appeared at first glance that it was not in fact cancer, full Histopathology was run at the laboratory and confirmed this great news! He was suffering from a nasty inflammatory disease of the pancreas, liver and bowel.
Kobar recovered in a warm, fluffy house (fit for the king that he is!) and went home to a very grateful family. Kobar continues to thrive at home, putting on weight and claiming his regular spot on the bed at night.
