A LIONS TALE

LIONS Logo 50x47mm 150dpi clr

The Lions have recently expanded in membership, with several new keen and active members.  We now have a diverse set of talents and abilities in the Club, which relieves the load on us all, and enables support of events more readily and easily.  Such an example occurred on Rodeo day, when Lions could supply members to run the gate, organise the parking, and provide workers in the canteen.  In addition, we provided a refreshment stage in the town for the 100-mile bike ride which was to support the safehouse Lions provide in Lawnton for the vulnerable youth.

MOVIE NEWS:

Next Movie – 26th September:

Shaun The Sheep Movie

The Lions continue to present the Community Cinema, usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month.  This is a community event, aimed at allowing families an inexpensive outing together.  Whilst it is not intended as a fundraiser, recently running losses have needed to be subsidised due to low attendances.  We need to choose a movie which meets satisfactory social ethics, and would entertain a family.  We have suggestions from time to time, to show a more mature movie, but on the occasions we try this (e.g. the excellent movie “Tracks”) then the usual younger families were not attracted, so the attendances were low.  We have provided movie tickets as raffle prizes for several local events, and will continue to run monthly movies at this stage.

On Sat 26th September – n.b. the 4th Saturday of the month this time due to its release date – we have the freshly available SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE.  Community Hall, doors 6:30pm for 7pm start.  Admission $6 pp, $18 max per family.

BUSINESS DIRECTORY:

Preparation for the 2016 Lions’ Dayboro business and phone Directory is now underway.  This is distributed in January to 2000 or so homes in Dayboro and district, and is our major fundraiser which provides for the plethora of value-added functions and support of this town.  Local retailers and tradies and other service advertisers who pay to advertise in this are giving back some major help to the community.  We thank them hugely for this, and are pleased when we hear the booklet is the first source of reference for anyone requiring local (the best!) services etc.  Any new businesses are encouraged to add their advertisement.  Remember – one insertion, lasts all year.  It also includes the local telephone directory, and all householders who require their names added or changed for 2016 should return the form that is distributed this month (see below).

DINNER MEETING – 23rd September

The September open dinner meeting is an illustrated presentation by Ian and Sue Flinders about travel in Burma (Myanmar).  An insight into a fascinating country of beautiful people that is 50 years behind western development.  The meeting starts at 7pm on Wed 23rd September and an optional meal is available for $15.  No booking required, and no Lions membership or obligations.  These presentations are run as a service to the community.

Our member Dave has been at it again, advocating to enrich the facilities in town.  He has arranged for more seating benches in town, and the Council have been in consultation to agree on a position.

The Conversation Club is providing a great service to the mature folk of the town, and Dayboro Lions are pleased to be pivotal in its support.

On Youth support, we are looking at promoting youth club activity, and a Blue Light Disco in conjunction with the PCYC and of course, Sergeant Ken, who has interest and supporting drive in this area.

….More Next Month
