June2014_DAYBORO CWA NEWS

The Australian Country Women’s Association was born in 1922 through a need for women to provide support for one another and their families.  This was particularly crucial in those years following The First World War and subsequently during The Second World War.  Not only did they support one another but also provided valued support to troops serving in the Armed Forces.  During 2013 our Dayboro CWA formed a lovely connection with the Dayboro RSL.

We share our hall and value the support offered by the RSL in maintaining the premises.  Many of our CWA members have strong ties with the RSL and we are grateful for their presence in our local community.

Our Women Walk the World Morning Tea was enjoyed by around 15 women.  We strolled around the world map then, over a cuppa, learned about the wonderful work done by the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW).  Many thanks to Joycelynn Herburg for her presentation.

Thank you to all those ladies who entered our Branch Photography and Handcraft Competitions during April and May.  Good luck to those with entries now going onto Division judging.
Our evening ladies will be meeting on Wednesday 18th June at the CWA Hall in Dayboro for a Craft Evening.  Last month we enjoyed card making, this month we will be doing jewellery making.  New faces are always welcome.  Materials will be provided, just bring a few dollars to cover costs, enjoy a light supper and great company.

Recipe of the month:
Slow Cooker Pea and Ham Soup
Ingredients:
800g ham hock
1 brown onion, finely diced
2 carrots, chopped
2 sticks celery, chopped
2 cups yellow split peas, rinsed well
1 bay leaf
10 cups water
Method:
Place split peas in slow cooker, add vegetables, bay leaf and ham hock.  Cover with water.  Cook on low for 6-8hrs or until meat falls off bone easily.  Remove hock, chop meat and return to soup.  (Tip: you can add extra vegies to the slow cooker to make a nutritious meal).
