March2014_DAYBORO CWA NEWS
This year we have welcomed several new members already! Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month in the CWA Hall at 9.30am. Our day meeting usually covers more of the ‘business’ side of things but it’s also an excuse for a cup of tea and a scone! Each year a country of study is chosen.
This year we are studying Vietnam and a short, informative report is given at each meeting. A number of our members are unable to make it to day meetings so last year we started holding evening gatherings. These are more relaxed and social. We have now planned a calendar of nights out for dinner and nights in for craft. Join us for dinner at Terrah’s Restaurant in March, then in April we’ll have a night in at the CWA Hall to try our hand at Easter Crafts.
On Tuesday 18th March we’re hosting our Seniors Morning Tea at the Dayboro Showground from 10am. Enjoy homebaked goods, raffles and entertainment from a local bush poet. In conjuction with morning tea we’re also holding our Branch Cookery Contest. All are welcome to enter baked goods for judging. A copy of the schedule is available by emailing stephsinc@gmail.com. All baked goods entered are sold afterwards as a small fundraiser.
So did anyone purchase a copy of Ruth Magazine yet? I hope you enjoyed it. This inspiring magazine is produced by the Queensland Country Women’s Association. Copies are available at newsagents (or just ask them to order it in). Ruth looks at some of the issues affecting Queensland communities, shares fundraising, cooking and household secrets, provides inspiration to make a change in your life, gives tips on finance, family issues, exercise and fashion, shares insider knowledge of holiday destinations and showcases recipes, gardens and homes. The quarterly publication is just $6.95 or save $1 per issue by subscribing.

Recipe of the month:
Allergy-friendly Chocolate Brownie
These days there are a lot of people who suffer from food intolerances or allergies. These simple brownies are a great one to keep in mind as they are egg-free and can be made gluten and dairy free by substituting for appropriate ingredients.
Ingredients:
2 cups self-raising flour (or substitute for gluten-free self-raising flour)
2 cups castor sugar (or substitute with natvia or dextrose if watching calorie or fructose intake)
3/4 cup cocoa (or use raw cacao powder)
1 cup melted butter (or use olive oil, coconut oil or dairy-free spread)
1 cup water
Method:
Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees, line a 20 x 30cm baking tray with baking paper.
In a large bowl stir together flour, sugar and cocoa.
Add butter/oil and water and mix until blended.
Spread mixture evenly in the tray.
Bake for 30 minutes or until top springs back when touched.
Cool and cut into squares.
Optional: Dust with icing sugar to serve.
