QLD Plan – QLD of the Future
The Queensland Plan Summit took place in Brisbane last month and I had the pleasure of attending.  Many issues were raised and debated and there were a number of priorities discussed that will benefit the Pine Rivers Electorate.
One of the top priorities was to strengthen all Queensland regions and once the Plan is released I’ll look at new strategies to build an even better Pine Rivers.  In order for the Queensland Plan to be implemented, further research will be conducted in the hopes of identifying and improving Queensland’s strengths and weaknesses.  The final Queensland Plan will be released later this year.

‘Get Ready’ in Dayboro
The Get Ready Queensland initiative is a year round program involving all sectors of the community aimed to make Queensland the most disaster resilient state in Australia.  Get Ready Queensland is formed around the fact that every Queenslander can do a little, to accomplish a lot in preparation for bushfire, storm and cyclone season.  While we cannot control the weather, we can control how we prepare for it and how we respond.
This is a great initiative and I urge all residents to become involved with Get Ready Queensland this month and prepare in case the worst of summer eventuates.  This is an opportunity for everyone to take small steps to protect their property, and to assist neighbours with preparations.  It is extra important for neighbours to lend each other a hand in true Queensland spirit, particularly if your neighbours are elderly or disabled.
The Government has already included $2 million in funding for local Queensland councils to aid and support local preparedness, in addition to partnerships with organisations such as Bunnings, Energex and Commonwealth Bank.  Moreton Bay Regional Council has been granted over $117,000 alone to support communities within the region.

‘Take My Seat’ Challenge
On Friday 8th November I will be spending a morning using a wheelchair to navigate around the Brisbane CBD.  I will be doing this in order to experience what life is like for people who use a wheelchair and have to complete daily tasks.  The purpose of this challenge is to better understand the struggles faced by people with disabilities whilst also raising funds and awareness for the Spinal Injuries Association.  If you are interested in following my journey and supporting the Spinal Injuries Association, you can donate to the Spinal Injuries Association ‘Take My Seat’ Challenge by going to www.everydayhero.com.au/seathholswichmp
