Jan Chapman – Artist of the Month for September
Jan was born in Australia. However, she spent the first thirty years or so living in Papua New Guinea, mainly living in remote areas. She started painting in PNG and was clearly influenced by the colourful culture of that beautiful country.
Returning to Australia in the 1980s she studied under Pia Tareen for many years; mainly painting in the impressionist and traditional method. While studying with Pia Tareen she exhibited at the Riverside Centre and the School of Arts. More recently, Jan has taken part in workshops run by well known artists, Todd Whisson and Dale Marsh.
Jan’s artistic aim is to continue to create paintings from the landscape and her imagination that captures her vision of the spirit and beauty of nature.
