ARTISTS OF THE MONTH At Dayboro Gallery
There are two featured artists for the month of July – Lorraine Emerson and Michael Forman.
LORRAINE EMERSON
Lorraine, a local artist, has been a member of the Dayboro Gallery for a number of years. She has won several awards for her works in oils, watercalours, acrylics and mixed media.
This new exhibition features FELTING – and is an extension of her skills. Come and visit the Gallery to see her work.
MICHAEL FORMAN
Michael’s photography work spans back to 1991. He was so successful with his earlier work that he took out quite a few photography awards. Shortly afterwards TAFE employed him to instruct others on how to achieve similar results, and he still does this today!
Although these days Michael shoots mostly in digital formats, he grew up using a darkroom, developing his work by hand. For Michael, understanding light, combined with good camera work is what begins the journey into photography. His subject interests are mostly landscapes, nudes, watery scenes, and historical places of interest, whilst experimenting with a new technique known as extractional imagery…a first for Dayboro and for photography.
The process is completely reverse to what we understand imagery to be about. Instead of starting with a blank canvas and building a scene on to it, Michael begins with a fully detailed studio photograph and then painstakingly removes most of it. The resulting image is extraordinary to say the least.
Michael runs personal photography workshops from Dayboro and has been a regular instructor at the Clifton Art Workshops, The Lamington Light Festival at O’Reilly’s Guesthouse and guest speaker and judge at The Queensland Camera Group in Bardon. His work has appeared on television, in magazines and books here in Australia as well as oversees.
When Michael is not out teaching, travelling and photographing the world, he likes to write, perform in musical theatre and sing in local choirs.
His work is on display at the gallery during the month of July.
