Phyll Griffin, the irrepressible artistic director and leader of the Savoyard Singers, says of their forthcoming Mt Mee concert – “Come with us on a musical journey with ‘Show Stoppers’ from some of the most popular musicals; “Anything Goes”,  “Mame”, “Carousel”, “Sunset Boulevard”, “Evita”, “Sweet Charity” and many more.

Travel along with the music of famous composers:- Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sondheim, plus a dash of operetta from the pen of Franz Lehar.
For the ‘Stop-Overs” we have added our usual bit of frivolity in a number from “La Cage aux Folles”, with the boys trying to out-do the girls wearing feathers and sparkles.”
She implores – “Journey along with us as we bring the magical melodies from the musical stage of memorable shows to our very favourite spot at beautiful Mt Mee!”
What more can be said but to confirm that the Savoyard Singers return to Mt Mee Hall on 13th September and that their “form” suggests that it will be another spirited Sunday afternoon of melody, harmony and fun!  While it might be challenging for them to equal the “ Boy from Oz” benchmark just set by the parent Savoyard Musical Comedy Society during their recent season, they will be in there punching harder than a Cockroach front row forward!
And perhaps to say that the usual legendary afternoon tea on the lawn is thrown in, (maybe managed a little better than at the St Lucia Orchestra concert).
For the historians and lovers of detail it is worth adding that the “Singers” was founded under the leadership of the talented and ebullient Phyll Griffin to sing, to have fun, and to earn a dollar to help support the parent Company.  The “Singers” is now in its eleventh year.
Four of the ten current singers have sung professionally with various opera companies, others are graduates of the Brisbane “Con”.  All bring a wealth of experience to the group, including the Musical Director and accompanist Jan Ashworth, who has directed the music for the productions of the parent Savoyard Musical Comedy Society for more years than she will admit to.
This is another non- profit concert organised for the community by the Mt Mee Hall.
