How’s Lachy going? That’s the question 10 year old, Lachlan Ferguson’s parents are asked on a daily basis. Here’s an update. Since the earlier story in the Grapevine about Lachlan joining the Tennis Academy and School of Excellence program at Kelvin Grove State College, his world has been consumed with Academy Training, Squad Training, Private Coaching, Tournaments, school work, Piano and Travelling to and from.

Lachlan’s day starts at 5.10am, in the car by 6am and on the courts by 7.15am. Tuesday night is Homework night and Wednesday is Piano. The other three afternoons or evenings are taken up with Private Coaching with Greg Smith (pictured) of Matchpoint Tennis or Elite squads, again with Matchpoint Tennis.
The family travel between 1200 – 1500klms per week by car excluding an average of 2 Tournaments per month, the latest being in Cairns.
His schedule is tailored to allow enough time to recharge the batteries and enjoy some quality 10 year old time. Lachlan’s father said, that, even when he has days off, he can’t sit still. He’s either out tearing up the place on his go cart, adventure walks with the dog and mates or helping out around the property. He always puts his Tennis first, he is so passionate and self driven.

Won Doubles Finals 11 year Junior Master Circuit at Beenleigh
Semi finalist singles 11 years Junior master Circuit at Caboolture
Finalist Singles – FNQ Junior Classic in Cairns
Won Doubles – FNQ Junior Classic in Cairns
He was also chosen to be a part of the Stanwell Development Squad with Tennis Queensland and has won a scholarship with Tennis Australia/Queensland at the National High Performance Academy based at University of Queensland.
He is known as the’ Dayboro Rocket’. He is dedicated to his Tennis and is well supported by equally dedicated Parents, Susan and Craig, his Coach Greg Smith and staff of both National and College Academies.

Lachlan was selected to play in the Regional School Tennis Trials at Tennis Qld headquarters at the University at St Lucia. The Regional School Tennis Trials are for Boys and Girls, 12 years and under. A team of 4 will be chosen to play for Queensland. Lachy and his doubles partner, Alex (another matchpoint tennis student, are the youngest at 10 years of age.)
