National Tree Day – more than 2000 trees planted in Pine Rivers district
About 100 people planted more than 2000 trees in National Tree Day events at Samford and Lawnton planting locations on Sunday, 27th July, despite the chilly winter weather.
Divisional Councillor Bob Millar (Div 11) said after community residents planted 1600 trees at Samford Parklands. They enjoyed refreshments and a well-deserved sausage sizzle supplied by the Samford Bowls Club.
Cr Millar said he was impressed to see the community turn out in support of National Tree Day, showing their dedication to improving the local environment.
“Every volunteer’s efforts are important, as the native trees they are planting will provide food and shelter for local wildlife in the Samford area,” he said.
Divisional Councillor Mick Gillam (Div 8) said a fantastic effort was made by 65 people who planted 1000 trees, at One Mile Golf Course Reserve, Lawnton on Sunday morning.
Cr Gillam said the Pine Rivers Lions provided their support through assisting with tree planting, as well as providing participants with refreshments and a sausage sizzle.
“The trees people planted were mulched and watered using only recycled water,” he said.
Both councillors said they were pleased to see so many people attend this great family Tree Day that would increase the biodiversity of their local area.
