Admission is still just $15.00 inclusive, with concessions for pensioners, children and families. On Sunday 14th September it will be “Songs on the Mountain” time again, with the fabulous “Savoyard Singers” presenting “Let Us Entertain You”.
You will surely be entertained, with melodies from the light classics including a touch of G&S, and with songs from the shows such as “Les Miserables”, “Paint your Wagon”, “Big River” and more – stuff that you will enjoy hearing again. The program this year will include selections from other great modern shows, including “Sweet Charity”, “Showboat”, and “Boy from Oz”, plus some earlier memories from “Pirates of Penzance” and “The Rebel Maid” and from light classical composers such as Franz Schubert and even Mozart! There will be something for all tastes!
It’s a special year for the Savoyard Singers. They are celebrating their tenth anniversary as a group and their fourth annual appearance at “Songs on the Mountain” The ten vocalists and accompanist Jan Ashworth all perform regularly with the much loved Savoyard Musical Comedy Society. The “Savoyard Singers” sequestrum, under the leadership and artistic direction of the ebulliant and talented Phyll Griffin, was founded simply to sing and aims to earn a dollar to help support the Society. Four of the current singers have sung professionally with various opera companies, others are graduates of the Brisbane “Con” and all bring a wealth of performing experience to add to the repertoire of the group. Jan Ashworth is the Musical Director and accompanist and she also has wide theatrical experience. In recent years she has been busy as Repetiteur and Musical Director for most of the Savoyard Musical Comedy Society productions.
The Singers perform at venues throughout SE Queensland – one of their original and lasting ‘gigs’ has been the famous annual “Black Tie” dinner celebration at the Canungra Vinyards.
This is another non- profit function organised by the Mt Mee Hall for the enjoyment of the community. The concert will begin in our interesting old wooden building at 2pm sharp. Patrons may care to picnic beforehand in the well-appointed Mt Mee Forest, or to lunch next door by appointment at the highly esteemed “birches” restaurant. One of our famous complimentary afternoon teas will be served on tables on the lawn during interval.
