Official Opening Dayboro And District Rural Fire Brigade Fire Station
On Saturday, 23 August 2008, Ms Linda Lavarch MP, Member for Kurwongbah, will officially open the Dayboro and District Rural Fire Brigade fire station, located at 70 Laceys Creek Road, Dayboro (corner of Sellin Road). The Honourable Neil Roberts MP, Member for Nudgee and current Minister for Emergency Services, is unable to attend the ceremony and has asked Ms Lavarch to do the honours on his behalf.
Unfortunately, attendance at the ceremony will be by official invitation only.
An "Open Day" in September or October will be organised to showcase the station and the two appliances to rural landowners and other interested parties, so they can see exactly how (and on what) the brigade has spent their fire levy.
During the opening, the government of Queensland will take possession of the station and it then becomes another government asset, with our brigade as the occupant.
The building of the station was overseen by members of Dayboro and District Rural Fire Brigade. Our sincere thanks go to the many contractors we engaged in the construction process – too many to name individually.
We estimate the station’s value at approximately $150,000.00 to date.
Funding to build the station was obtained in the following manner:
• Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund grant of $50,000.00;
• Pine Rivers Shire Council (now Moreton Bay Regional Council) grant of $10,000.00;
• Department of Emergency Services grant of $10,000.00;
• The remaining $80,000.00 came from rural landowners in the Dayboro district in the form of the annual $25.00 fire levy and this was collected on our behalf by the Pine Rivers Shire Council.
The brigade is very grateful to the above organisations, and the rural landowners, for their assistance.
The members of the brigade are extremely proud of what we have achieved with the construction of the station, even though the idea for our rural fire station was first conceived back in 2000.
It has taken a huge effort to bring this idea to fruition, especially with the number of obstacles we have encountered (and overcome) over the years.
Glenn Bell, Chairman
Dayboro and District Rural Fire Brigade
