Madi’s Diary – Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

My name is Madi and I am 9 years old.  Our family went on an amazing eastern European holiday in 2007.  Here is my last article, written about Croatia.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

After a bike ride and a swim in Pag we drove to Plitvice Lakes.  When we got there the forest was absolutely wonderful with a lot of lush trees and beautiful birds. Suddenly we saw amazing turquoise coloured lakes.  There were waterfalls, reeds, ferns and heaps of large fish.  The water was very clear and you could see things like logs, rocks and fish under the water.  We could only walk for an hour as it was late.

We got up early for our favourite day of the holiday, a walk around Plitvice Lakes and its 16 lakes and 99 water falls (as pictured).  The walk took 8 hours.  On the walk we were stunned how beautiful and how well the area was looked after.  The area was world heritage listed.  The paths were made out of natural timber and nothing had been wrecked by tourists.  We had a nice picnic.  We were amazed by the different colours of the lakes and all the different types of waterfalls.  We had a peaceful time on a ferry which was run by electricity so it wouldn’t disturb the waters.
