“I am extremely keen to represent the views and concerns of young people in the Pine Rivers area at Youth Parliament” Kurt Hopkins said.
Youth Parliament is for interested young people aged 15 to 25.  It places participants in the role of a Member of Parliament – representing the community, debating and speaking in Parliament, lobbying for new policies, changing laws and creating new ones.
The Youth Parliament program teaches young people skills such as how government works, public speaking and debating, how to communicate issues, and how to work with the community to achieve positive results.
YMCA has operated the Youth Parliament program since 1996 as a non-party political program that aims to educate young people about the political process and allows them a voice in the decision that affect their lives.
The Youth Parliament itself is held in the Legislative Assembly Chamber in Brisbane while other activities such as a residential camp are held at other venues.
“I encourage young people from the Pine Rivers electorate to consider applying for next year’s Youth Parliament,” Carolyn Male MP said.
