The Dayboro Cedar Creek Hall link
Thanks go to the more than three hundred people who turned out to share a mug of soup and some laughs with each other on the Queen’s Birthday Monday in June.
The Bigalla and Millar families were amongst the first members of the new $10 Cedar Club created to help restore and maintain the Cedar Creek Public Hall. Left to right are: Dot and Bob Millar and Jacob, Suzie, Darcie and Scott Bigalla.
The $5 home cooked meal deal and $10 annual family membership club offer saw a profit of more than $3,200 going toward the restoration and the Hall insurance bill.
The district-wide help for one another is nothing new. Fountain pen scripted Cedar Creek Hall minutes from the 1930s onward show various socials held ‘in aid of the Dayboro Ambulance’. Many of the now older residents remember the days when the ‘Dayboro crowd’ would come down on the rail motor that rattled along the track to the nearby Closeburn/Cedar Creek Station for the popular dances.
Great to see the district’s families out together enjoying themselves again. At the Welcome to Winter Soup Party, an array of talented local musicians played throughout the day from the back of our now famous ‘stage’, Roy’s yellow ute, while the kids were happy running egg and spoon races, sack races, tug of war or getting their faces painted. Not a Nintendo DS in sight!! Despite officially ending at 5pm, many people stayed around the braziers long after the moon had risen while local group, ‘Talizman’, kept the hits coming.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everybody who contributed to the success of our district’s first Big Soup Party. So many people gave in so many ways, big and small, and all your efforts were truly appreciated.
If your family would like to be part of the restoration, just call Wendy (3289 4362) or Deb (3289 4253) to find out more about the $10 family membership.
Keep an eye out in the Grapevine for future events – the Grand Old Lady of Closeburn is back on the map!
