OLD MILL VET SURGERY OPEN DAY 2009

On the 26th of September the Old Mill Veterinary Surgery held their long-awaited open day, and despite the gusty winds, it was a fantastic day for the approximately 200 people that attended.
There were free pony rides for the kids, a free sausage sizzle and balloons, as well as a petting zoo with sheep, a foal, chicks and ducklings, and even a miniature pig! And for those not so faint at heart there was a very tame childrens’ python called Smeagol to cuddle.  The amazingly colourful exotic birds were very entertaining, particularly when trying to fish out the ice cubes from people’s drinks! And let’s not forget the great people from Wildcare, with their tiny joeys of various species for us to meet, and learn about their very important role in protecting our native wildlife.
To top it all off, there were some very cute and some very unusual and amazing displays in the Best-Dressed Pet competition, with the winning entry being “ the Rocket”, with “Buzz Lightyear” and “Woody” from the Toy Story – a massive Clydesdale cross and his courageous little riders! Well done Jill Sawyer, Colby, and the boys. All the participants received terrific prizes donated by Advance, including Greenies dog treats, and big bags of dog food, as well as paw painting kits for the best three entries.
The fantastic door prizes, including digital photo frames, a beach tent, a radio-esky, and barbeque sets went to Alan Kilby, James Wade, and Laura Higgin, a big congratulations to all of our winners!  With the event being such a huge success, all the staff of the Old Mill had an amazing time, and we are truly looking forward to doing it all over again next year,  hope to see all of you there!
