Oct2013_DINGOES REIGN SUPPREME
Congratulations to the Dayboro Dingoes U/13 team who, on the 15th of September, took out the Premiership for Division 2, North when they defeated Redcliffe PCYC 1 – 0. What made this win so remarkable is that half of the team are U/12 with a couple of team member’s still 11 until December.
This was a well fought victory with the top 4 teams in the division evenly matched throughout the season. Going into the final these teams sat within 2 points of one another.
This team also took out the minor premiership and top goal scorer for the division with Ryan Valentine scoring a total of 35 goals. Special mention should also go to Conor Owens who was the 4th highest goal scorer in this division; a great effort boys.
These goals would never have been scored without a strong team behind them though. Each member of the team this year should be congratulated on their efforts, their sportsmanship and their commitment to the game. What made this team so special and successful was their ability to work together as a team and to draw upon each other’s strengths regardless of skill level. Each player was a valued member of the team and this was demonstrated both on the playing pitch and during team training. For this reason they are great role models for the younger players coming through.
Thank you to all the supporters who travelled to the game to support the team for the big game. Dayboro had a big showing on the day and our club banner, resplendent with Dayboro colours, was flying high behind the crowd. Also thank you to Kerry Murnane and Ella who did up the poster and team names on the way out of town. Both shows of support were greatly appreciated by the team and their parents. Thank you also to Billy Hohns and Elliott Rose who were our home game officials this year. Both were very reliable and did a great job.
Special mention should also be made of the parents of this team. Without asking they ran the line, acted as ground officials, worked in the canteen and assisted in many other small ways that cannot be underestimated. All are busy people and all have at one time or another demonstrated their commitment to the Dayboro community by volunteering their time generously, whether it is to the Dayboro Dingoes or to other organisations. If ever you need to confirm that children follow their parent’s lead you only need to look at this team.
Finally a big thankyou to the (super) coach, Nick Gordon, assistant coach, Graham Sweeney and to the Dayboro Dingoes committee who have volunteered a lot of their precious time to ensuring that all the kids on this team and all the other soccer teams get to do what they love the most – play soccer!
Well done team and we hope to see you all return next year to see if we can do it all again.
Team – Holly Gordon, Sam Elliott, Ella Milliken, Arthur Springer, Braeden Dahl, Quinn Sweeney, Conor Owens, Tim Colyer, Trent Reilly, Torin Schneid, Dean Valentine, Ryan Valentine, Hannah Walker, Jacob Rhue.
