Oct2010 THE DINGOES DEFINE THEIR TERRITORY

The Dayboro Dingoes Soccer Club finally has somewhere to call home for on Sunday the 29th of August they celebrated the opening of their new den- The John Jelliffe Clubhouse.  The Dingoes, whose territory also includes the Colin Thiele Soccer Field, had much to celebrate at the opening including  ten years since the club’s inauguration, the establishment of a senior men’s soccer team this year and of course the opening itself.
logo_db_soccer_100x73mm_10dpi.jpgThe opening was celebrated by many current and past players and committee members.  Local politicians who attended and spoke on the day included Bob Millar (Moreton Bay Regional Council), Peter Dutton (Federal Member for Dickson) and Carolyn Male (State Member for Pine Rivers).
The  John Jelliffe Clubhouse was named in honour of the first president of the Dayboro Dingoes Soccer Club.  John still resides in the area and at the opening spoke about the years when the Dayboro Dingoes were new cubs in the sporting arena.  It is thanks to John, his committee and all subsequent committee’s dedication and hard work that Dayboro now has a well established soccer club, a clubhouse to call their own and their own playing pitch.  The club’s strong community focus and dedication to the sport was also recognised by Football Brisbane last year when it was awarded the ‘2009 Junior Club of the Year’.
For such a small and young club, the Dingoes have tasted recent sporting success with the U12s winning their grand final in 2009.  This team again played strongly throughout 2010 and were this year awarded the premiership award for being top of their league and for their runner up performance at the 2010 U13 grand final.  Many of the Dayboro teams in other divisions also played strongly this year with several only losing one or two matches throughout the season.
The current committee would like to acknowledge and thank Bob Millar of the Moreton Bay Regional Council for his support and the substantial financial contribution made by council towards the establishment of the clubhouse.  They would also like to thank the following people who freely contributed their time and skills: Richard Farquharson of Terrors Creek Electrical, Tony Gardiner from AKG Handy Man Services, Glen Lake of Bowlak Bobcat and Tipper Hire, Peter Schoots painting contractor and Tony Clarke of Alphabetical Engineering for signage.  A big thank you also goes to the current club treasurer Venetia Simons and her husband Michael for all their hard work preparing for the day.
