Spokesperson for Sustainability, Councillor Rae Frawley, said the koala survey would help provide council with information about koala numbers within Moreton Bay region.
She said residents were encouraged to look in their backyards and nearby parklands to look for koalas in their community.
“The survey helps gather data which will assist in the conservation of koalas – it’s a real community effort,” Cr Frawley said.
“Importantly, the information provided will help determine the location of koala colonies and allow us to work towards sustaining, protecting and enhancing the future of these animals within our region.”
“Participants who send their completed survey to council will go in the draw to win fantastic prizes, including a pair of Bushmaster binoculars, eco pack, or one of five nature and wildlife publications.”
“This year, council is hoping to collect information about the size and gender of the observed koalas as well as the frequency of sightings.”
