Bidding closes on Friday 22nd October 2010 at 3.00 p.m. To make a bid contact 3881 3710 or email Christine Stubbs@aph.gov.au.
Senator for Queensland Mark Furner has put up his hand to lose his locks to raise money for Cancer Council Queensland through the Brisbane Relay for Life.
A veteran Relay for Life supporter, Senator Furner will brave the summer months without his hair and is leaving the honours up to the highest individual bidder.
“For the last five years I have taken part in Relay for Life and thought I would do something different in 2010 to help raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland,” Senator Furner said.
“Cancer Council Queensland does an excellent job at raising awareness, providing support to cancer sufferers and educating the public about preventative measures so it’s important that they are able to continue their valued contribution to society.
“Going bald pales in comparison to what cancer sufferers experience and I want to make sure they receive the support they need to get through it.
“And if shaving my heads raises more money for the Cancer Council, then so be it.”
The Brisbane Relay for Life will take place on 6-7 November 2010 at the RNA Showground. Senator Furner and two staff members will be shaving their heads at the Relay and are looking for more donations for this wonderful cause.
Senator Furner has been supporting the Queensland Cancer Council since 2005 and has participated in the Brisbane, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe relays. His team won the Pine Rivers Relay for Life Highest Fundraiser two years in a row in 2006 and 2007.
