Oct2010 DAYBORO CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS COLLECTIVE

Are you a local contemporary artist interested in meeting other local artists?
My name is Belinda Davis, as well as being new to the Dayboro area, I am a contemporary sculptor with a fascination (obsession?) for non traditional materials.
My current work combines intestine (natural sausage casings) with women’s pursuits like sewing, knitting, cross stitch and weaving in sculptural works and the odd performance.  While I’m still trying to understand why I’m drawn to create these works, you could say that concepts around the body, the abject and feminist theory all come into it… but don’t let that put you off, I really am quite normal… or at least quite close to normal!
I would like to start up a group of artists who want to get together and talk about their own work.  Initially the group would be a sort of social (or should that be anti-social?) network, where the input of other creative minds, ideas, approaches and disciplines will benefit all our practices. Together we could establish other aims of the collective which might include finding a better name, skill sharing, organising exhibitions, events and collaborations.  I also have a vague cultural tourism plan – a sort of once a month open studio trail – that we could develop and look at implementing next year.
If you are interested in jumping in to the melting pot, I’d love to hear from you.  Contact me on 0416 274 462 or by email – bels@remarkabel.com.
