Secure Our Country
The Coalition committed at the election to build a strong, prosperous economy and a safe, secure Australia. We are getting things done, and we will be tireless in our pursuit of a better future for our country.
As a member of Cabinet, I have been working closely with Prime Minister Abbott to achieve the best outcomes for residents of Dickson and for all Australians.
It is the first duty of any government to protect its citizens, and it is imperative that the extremist threat to our way of life be disrupted, degraded and dismantled.
In working to ensure a safer and more secure country, the Government has passed legislation delivering stronger powers to our police and national security agencies to fight terrorism.
We’re also committing an extra $630 million to our police & security agencies for their work to keep Australians safe. This means more resources for the Australian Federal Police, ASIO, ASIS and our Customs and Border Protection Service.
The Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, has cancelled the passports of a number of Australians on security grounds. This is to prevent people joining terror groups in the Middle East.
The Government is doing everything we humanly can to keep our country safe.
While we work toward a more secure Australia, we continue our work toward a more prosperous Australia. The Government has been striving to strengthen our economy and deliver better outcomes for families and businesses.
True to our election commitments, we have abolished the Carbon Tax and the Mining Tax. There was no mandate for these taxes, and they have served as a handbrake on our economy. Households will on average be $550 a year better off following the abolition of the Carbon Tax. The Mining Tax was an unmitigated disaster, and the scrapping of the tax will save the Government $10 billion over the next four years.
We are focused on delivering for Australians, by building the vital infrastructure our communities need, stopping the boats and deaths at sea, and fixing Labor’s budget mess. We are getting on with the job, and we will get this done.
MOvember
November means that ‘MOvember’ is once again upon us. The popular men’s health awareness campaign encourages men to grow a moustache for the month. The aim of the campaign is to raise funds for men’s health research and organisations as well as raising awareness about the pressing issues men are facing. Ladies, you can also get involved by encouraging your brothers, partners and male friends to grow a mo for this great cause. There is more information online, as well as the opportunity to register for this year’s MOvember: http://au.movember.com/
Christmas card Competition
Christmas is just around the corner, and I am running my Christmas card competition again this year. Students in Prep to Year Three who attend local schools were invited to take part. This year’s theme is “How I celebrate Christmas”. We have some fun prizes for the schools participating and the respective winners. The winners are always proud to see their masterpiece in print! Look out for our Christmas cards to see the winning entries.
Is it really Telstra calling?
In recent times there has been an increase in the number of phone calls impersonating Telstra staff. These people try to gain personal information from you or offer a dubious sales pitch. They can use this information to access your money and accounts.
Telstra will notify you in writing of any technical faults or service interruptions in your area, not over the phone. Telstra will never ask for information like your bank or credit card details unless it relates to an existing account requiring payment.
If you’re suspicious about a call you’ve received, you should end the conversation immediately. You can report the call to Telstra’s Sales Watch Hotline 24/7 on 1800 260 270 or visit Telstra.com/verify .
